Varsity Girls at Winterfest

     The Erie Mason Girls' Varsity Basketball Team beat the Whiteford Bobcats at the Eagles Winterfest game in a rivalry league meetup on Jan. 30.

     There was much tension on the home team as this was the team's second meeting this season. The two teams first met at Whiteford earlier this year, which ended in a Bobcat win of 35-29. To add to the fact, the stands were also packed to see the crowning of the winterfest king at halftime, adding more background noise.

     The first half of the game saw the two teams go back and forth. The bleachers were loud, full of people cheering for both ends of the court. With the last minute left, the Eagles and Bobcats were tied 11-11. Within that minute, senior Molly Sepulveda hit a quick jumper, and senior Paige Konrad sank in a three-pointer to give Erie the 16-11 lead. 

     Erie never gave up their lead from there and kept a calm gap between the scores. The night ended with the Erie Mason Eagles at 36 and the Whitford Bobcats at 21.

     Captain and lead scorer Konrad shared her excitement about the 

win.

     “We’ve been on a losing streak, so it was nice to finally get a win at home on such a big night,” Konrad, who led the team with 13 points, said.

     Junior Captain Aubrey Icoangeli is currently out due to injury, but she said she can’t help but appreciate the hard work of her teammates.

     “Even though it’s hard not being able to impact the game, I am truly proud of everyone of this team for putting in all their effort to get this win under our belts.

     On Jan. 6, the Erie Mason Boys Varsity Basketball team took on the Lenawee Christian Cougars at home in a nail-biting game. The first half ended with the Eagles up 23-24. 

The crowd was large in the Eagles’ home gym, with a lot of pressure on the boys' basketball team to win. This win would have marked the Eagles as an undefeated team in the Tri-County Conference. However, after a hard struggle, the Cougars pulled away with the win, ending the fourth quarter with a score of 46-39. At the end of the night junior TJ Langenderfer led the Eagles with 16 points and senior Logan Doom was following close behind with a total of 11 points.

This being only his first year on varsity, junior TJ Langenderfer has become a star within the Eagles lineup. Following his performance last night, Langenderfer had this to say about his newfound leadership role within the team. “It feels very meaningful that I get to lead part of the team when I’m on the court,” Langenderfer said. “Contributing any way I can feels amazing.”

This game marks only the beginning of the Eagles' season as they head into the thick of the 2025-2026 Basketball calendar. After the LCS defeat, the Erie Mason Boys basketball team is currently third in the Tri-County Conference and 4-5 in its overall record. The Eagles still have many more league games and will travel away to face the 7-3 Summerfield Bulldogs on Friday. 

After the game, senior Captain Logan Doom said he is hopeful about achieving his goals for the season. “For my last season, I hope to have the best season yet as a varsity team,” Doom said. “I want to end with at least more than 13 wins and to go on to win districts. I believe we can do this as long as we play to the best of our abilities.”

Although many of the contributors on the court are upperclassmen, there are younger players who are continuing to make major plays and develop within the Erie Mason program. Sophomore Guard Warren Williams reflected on the game: “I thought the game went good, but there’s obviously some holes in our game that we need to work on. Being one of the younger guys, I’m very grateful to gain experience and still have a role on the team.”
