As Christmas approaches, our Mason High School students decided to give back to the community by singing carols, writing Christmas cards, reading to elementary students, and participating in our food drive. We thank everyone who participated in these kind actions, making students' days just a bit brighter than before.

Christmas break is around the corner. What are you during it? During Christmas break most people go on trips, but where should you go? The best place to go that's not too far away, and has just as many things to do as the most popular big cities is… Detroit.
Detroit has many places that are exciting to visit during break. The best places to go in Detroit or near Detroit are the Beacon Park Candyland, Detroit Zoo, and Holiday Nights in Greenfield Village.

When Gareth (Garth), son of King Lot of Orkney decides to prove his worth by working as a kitchen knave for King Arthur, he meets the “lovely” yet prideful lady Evelyn and decides to go on a quest to rescue her sister. Lady Evanor, her sister, is guarded by four knights, the red, yellow, green, and black knights.
This was the setting for the annual madrigal dinner play held at Mason Senior High School Dec. 12 & 13. The show was sold out and included the play, dinner, a choir concert and more.

French Club
On Dec. 16, the French Club went carolling and taught French culture to the elementary students in three separate classes. A total of 67 students participated in this activity, making it a fun experience for them while also providing an opportunity to learn new information.
FOR Club
The FOR club students might have surprised you with a cute Christmas letter in your locker sometime this week. These letters included kind words such as “ you’re special” or “you’re unique” and a simple “have a great Christmas.”
On Dec. 15, the FOR club students also went to read to the elementary students. This took place from 10:35-11:30 a.m. A total of 16 students participated, as well as helped the younger students write Christmas letters.
STUCO
Student Council worked with Bobbie’s Staff this year on a food drive from Dec. 8-18. The items collected will be used for “blessing boxes” to help local families during this holiday season.
The drive was a “class war” between juniors and seniors, with the seniors coming out the winner, collecting more than 100 items. Juniors were in second place, collecting 50 items. Seniors will be supplied a pizza party by Bobbie’s staff when we return from Christmas break.
Choir and Band
The madrigal was once again a success, with tickets selling out. The annual dinner included a play, music and dinner prepared by volunteers, specifically Mrs. NAME Whipple. They also performed a variety of songs sung by the 5th grade, 7th grade, and our high school choirs.
Thank you to everyone who participated in a kind action this December showing off our Mason Eagles holiday spirit. Merry Christmas, and we hope you have a great rest of your year.

Audience and cast alike enjoyed a wonderful dinner prepared by volunteers, with special efforts by Mrs. Sara Whipple. There was a wide array of songs by the 5th grade, 7th grade, and High school choirs to bring in the holiday spirit. Spectators laughed at dances like the Twelve Days of Christmas sung by the cast and danced to by Gage Walen and Collyn Griffin; on the contrary, they teared up to a duet of Greensleeves by Genevieve Wilkinson and Abigail Esford.
During the show, At the end of each night, kids from grade 5 to 12 sang Silent Night, some for the last time, touching the hearts of everyone involved. Let us thank our cast and volunteers as well as our director Justin Johnson.

Candyland at Beacon Park
Beacon Park is in downtown Detroit. One of their biggest annual events during Christmas is “Candyland.” It’s a free-admission event. At Candyland, there is a giant-sized gingerbread house with a full-size gingerbread man, large candy canes, cupcakes, candy swirls, and a walk-through snowflake. It starts in mid-November to mid-January.
Detroit Zoo
Detroit Zoo is holding its “Wild Nights” Christmas event in Royal Oak, Michigan, which is 15 minutes away from Detroit. Detroit Zoo’s Christmas event is “Wild Lights”. It’s between $17-$27, and you have to purchase in advance online. At the zoo, there is a holiday light show that has millions of LED lights and hundreds of dazzling displays. It started Nov. 22 and ends on Jan. 4, Friday to Saturday 5-10:30 p.m. Weeknights and Sundays are usually 5-9 p.m.
Holiday Nights is at Greenfield Village
Greenfield Village Holiday Nights is in Dearborn, Michigan. It is also 15 minutes away from Detroit. It costs between $30 to $45 , but there are also discounts for seniors (62+), youth (5-11), and free entry for young children (4 & Under). The price may seem like a lot to pay, but at Holiday Nights, your ticket includes rides, ice skating, live music, and fireworks. It ends Dec. 28, with hours from 6:30-10 p.m.
So you may think you need to travel to find exciting holiday things to do, but just visit Detroit over Christmas break to give you many fun and exciting things to do.
